When You’d Rather Do Anything But Write
I don’t wanna do the work today!
I don’t know about you, but some days I’m just not feeling the writing vibe.
I want to want to write, but I don’t want to put in the work.
I want to play hooky and watch reels and goof off.
I want to lay on the couch or in bed and binge watch Only Murders in the Building and Agatha All Along.
My feelings are perfectly summed up in the YouTube video below.
I don’t want to do the work today! I need some down time baby and I mean right now!
All writers feel like this sometimes and the best cure is to just give into it and give your brain a rest for a while.
Take a nap, a walk or listen to music or watch funny videos.
Take a shower.
Do some crafts.
Go to the beach and watch the waves.
Trying to force yourself to produce is a recipe for disaster. You’ll just get more stubborn and dig your heels in.
You’re a human, not a machine and sometimes you just need some time off.
So next time you get cranky and don’t want to do the work, just imagine this video in your head, do the dance (with the hand motions) and say after me:
“I don’t really wanna do the work today. I don’t wanna do the work today.”
And then do something completely different!
Believe me this stuff really works.
